At 1 to 24 pieces the rate is 35 cents per square inch. At 25 to 49 it is 30 cents. At 50 to 99 it is 28 cents. At 100 to 249 it is 26 cents. At 250 to 499 it is 24 cents. At 500 the rate is 22 cents.

The practical effect is that ordering a whole room at once costs less per label than ordering a shelf at a time. A bin label and a door sign are the same product, priced the same way.

A shelf label, worked all the way through

Take a common shape for this kind of work: a 3 by 4 inch label, portrait or landscape, big enough to carry a part name and a code in type you can read from standing height. Three multiplied by four is 12 square inches.

Order 500 of them and you are in the bottom band, so the rate is 22 cents per square inch. Twelve square inches at 22 cents is $2.64 for one label. Five hundred of those comes to $1320.00.

That is the whole calculation. Change the size and the square inch figure moves. Change the count and the rate moves to whatever band the count lands in. Nothing else is added to it.

The smallest order we will take

There is a floor on order size, and it works in two directions. An order qualifies at 10 or more pieces, or at $10 of merchandise, whichever of the two you reach first. A run of 10 small labels qualifies on the piece count even if the money is under $10. A run of four large ones qualifies on the merchandise value even though the count is under 10.

This is a qualifying rule, not a price floor. Nothing is rounded up to $10. Clear the rule and you pay exactly what the square inch maths says.

Artwork, and what a cut line actually does

Die cut means the cut follows the outline of the artwork rather than a rectangle around it. For shelf and bin labels that usually ends up being a rectangle with rounded corners, but it can equally be a badge shape, an arrow, or the silhouette of the thing being stored.

Send artwork with the shape you want clear in it, either as a drawn outline or as flat art with obvious edges, and keep anything you need to read away from that edge. If the labels carry a code that changes from bin to bin, send the list and the count for each. Variable text does not change how the square inch price is worked out.
