A parent volunteer planning a spirit run usually shows up with the same three things: a logo the students already know by sight, a headcount that keeps moving, and a budget line the treasurer has already approved. The stickers are almost never the hard part of the event. They are the part people keep once the event is over, on a water bottle, a binder, a car window, a locker door. That is two and a half times the quantity for a little over twice the money, and it is usually the moment a treasurer stops asking whether to print extras.

There is a threshold to get an order started, though it is not a price floor. An order qualifies at 10 or more pieces or at $10 of merchandise, whichever it reaches first.

A south west heading, which is not the usual one here

Almost all of Suffolk County sits east of the shop, so most of what we hand across the counter is going that way. West Hills is one of the exceptions. It sits 4.7 miles south west of us in a straight line, inside the Town of Huntington and inside the 11743 ZIP code. On a map it reads as the near corner of the county rather than a run out into it.

The places around it sit close together too. South Huntington is 2.1 miles away, Huntington Station 2.5 miles, Cold Spring Harbor 2.8 miles, Melville 3.0 miles and Plainview 3.3 miles, and we cover every one of them. That matters more for a school order than it sounds, because a committee is rarely all in one place. The person holding the artwork, the person holding the roster and the person holding the card often live in three different ZIP codes, and any of them can be the one who collects.

Drawing something that still reads at under two inches

A mascot drawn to fill a gym wall does not automatically work at 1.75 by 2.75 inches. The things that go first are hairline outlines, drop shadows, small gradients behind lettering, and a year printed in a light script under the main mark. If a detail is thinner than the stroke of the letters around it, assume it will close up.

Two habits help. Look at the design at actual size on a phone screen before approving it, not zoomed in on a laptop. And decide early whether the cut follows the outline of the mascot or sits as a simple rounded rectangle around it, because a shape with deep notches and thin arms behaves very differently from a compact one. Send the largest version of the file you have, and the exact colours if the group has official ones. If the artwork came from a yearbook page or a screen grab, say so up front, because that is a redraw conversation rather than a print one.

One design, several people signing off

Fundraiser orders tend to stall in the same spot: everyone has seen the sticker, nobody has actually approved it. The simplest fix is to name one person as the file owner. That person sends the artwork, answers proof questions and confirms the final count, and everyone else comments to them rather than to us.

Quantity is worth settling before artwork, because the rate band decides the budget. If the committee is torn between 100 and 250, ask us to show both figures on the same design and take the two numbers to the meeting.

Yes. Nothing about the design changes, only the band. At 100 the 1.75 by 2.75 inch sticker runs 26 cents per square inch and $1.25 each. At 250 the rate is 24 cents, so it is $1.16 each and $288.75 for the run.

We only need a small set of stickers for the West Hills organising committee, not for every student. Is that too few to order?
