Die-cut stickers are priced per square inch, and the rate per square inch falls as the quantity climbs. The bands are 35 cents at 1 to 24 pieces, 30 cents at 25 to 49, 28 cents at 50 to 99, 26 cents at 100 to 249, 24 cents at 250 to 499, and 22 cents at 500.

Two things follow from that. The first is that shape does not have its own surcharge. A circle and a rectangle of the same square inch area cost the same, so you can design the outline you want rather than the outline you assume is simplest to cut. The second is that the size of the sticker is the lever you control most directly. Trimming half an inch off a seal you were already unsure about is a real change to the bill, and it is worth deciding the size before you decide the quantity.

One sticker, two quantities

Take a 3 by 4 inch seal, which is 12 square inches. At 250 pieces the rate is 24 cents per square inch, so the sticker is $2.88 each and the run of 250 is $720.00. Push the same seal to 500 pieces and the rate drops to 22 cents, which puts it at $2.64 each and $1320.00 for the 500.

That is the whole calculation, and it is worth sitting with for a moment before you commit. Doubling the count does not halve the unit price, it moves it by a couple of cents a square inch. The question to ask is not whether the larger run looks better on paper but whether your product line will use 500 seals with the same wording on them. If a size, a scent, a flavour or a batch number is going to change, the smaller band is usually the calmer choice, and you can come back to the same artwork later.
